Profile of the Graduate

Professional profile of the graduate in the Mechanical Engineering Technologies program involves theoretical, but especially practical knowledge of mechanical engineering technologies, of production devices, of quality, economy and production control and the experience and ability to apply this knowledge in practice. Graduates gain theoretical, but especially practical knowledge about the most widely used technologies from the sphere of machine production and its control, they gain experience and skills from the sphere of design and technological tasks, using modern technology. Graduates as well possess basic knowledge from the sphere of production, testing and technological processing, selection, working and degradation of properties of the main types of technical materials. They are prepared to work in industrial enterprises from the sphere of production of technical materials, processing of technical materials into semi-finished goods and products, as well as quality control, purchase and sale, service and maintenance of these materials. Graduates are prepared to work in operation of industrial mechanical engineering enterprises, in the railway and road mass transportation, in every sphere of mechanical engineering, in application of mechatronical systems in practice and in other organisations doing maintenance, production, operation, or reparation. Graduates have appropriate knowledge of electronics, mechatronics, traction of mechatronical systems and programming using computer technology. They have sufficient experience and skills from laboratory work, they have appropriate knowledge of terminology in foreign languages, they know the basics of economical methods requited for operation of existing systems and the required basics of legal and psychological knowledge and of management of quality. Graduates of the bachelor program Mechanical Engineering Technologies may proceed their studies in the graduate study programs called Mechanical Engineering Technologies, Material Engineering and Automated Production Systems.

Scientific Profile

Research and development activities of the department focus – because of scientific specialisation of employees – on multiple spheres:

• research of the carving process (drilling, sharpening, turning, milling) using new tools, optimization, intensification,
• unconventional methods of machining and categorization of materials,
• high-speed machining of bearing materials,
• experimental analyses of machining vibration,
• quality management, providing metrological requirements for production,
• implementation of progressive technologies into machine production, the focus being on automotive industry, bearing production and aircraft industry,
• research and application of new materials designed for specific production, such as biomedicine, nuclear technology, food industry, chemical industry and similar.

Specialized Laboratories:

• integrated workplace for experimental methods from the theory of machining,
• integrated laboratory of machining for students,
• laboratory for measurement of accuracy and diagnostics of machining equipment,
• department's workshop.

Cooperation with Industry

The department actively cooperates with industry by investigation of partial solutions from the sphere of machining technology, metrology in mechanical engineering, design of tools and auxiliary workshop devices. The department also cooperates with research institutes and workplaces on some of the projects. The list of partners includes: Slovak Institute of Metrology, PSL, a.s.
