Profile of the Graduate

Professional profile of the graduate of the first level program of university study in the Mechanical Engineering Technologies program can be described in terms of theoretical, and especially practical knowledge concerning mechanical engineering technologies and design, production facilities, quality, economy and production management as well as experience and skills required to use this knowledge in practice. The graduates are prepared for work in operation of industrial mechanical engineering enterprises from all spheres of mechanical engineering.
Graduates of the second level of university study in the Mechanical Engineering Technologies study program are able to systematically and complexly investigate technological, material and organisational problems of rationalization, modernization and design of new production processes and systems from the sphere of mechanical and electrical engineering. They have deeper theoretical and experimental knowledge and practical experience with technological processes concerning casting, moulding, welding and heat treatment, which makes them able to work in mechanical engineering enterprises and plants, in the team of main technologist, in design and engineering of machines and tools, in technological development and research, in preparation of production, in management, marketing and control.
Graduates of the third level (postgraduate studies) is prepared for work at research and development departments of production enterprises, as members of top management, and at technical universities. They are as well able to work in firms and organisations providing consulting, where higher level of technical knowledge is required. Graduates are capable of independent scientific work. They are prepared to creatively develop their abilities and continue to gain further knowledge of the scientific discipline.

Research Projects:


Specific aspects of adapting pieces in gas industry; progressive mechanical engineering technological processes for industrial applications; investigation of metallurgical processing effects on use properties of high-precision zinc casts using centrifugal casting into silicon moulds; implementation of knowledge concerning electromagnetism into the sphere of integrated procedures in non-cutting technologies.


Non-cutting technologies in automotive industry – standard and novel technologies; creation of information and technology centre and of multimedia educational support for non-cutting production processes; a virtual laboratory for monitoring casting processes; a guide to heat treatment of metals; pressure casting of metals in mechanical engineering industry – standard and novel solutions.

• workplace for monitoring power parameters of welding,
• laboratory of metal moulding,
• laboratory of heat treatment.

Cooperation with Industry

The department has extensive experience in cooperation with various firms. Industry-inspired technical problems are investigated at the department and the results are applied back into production. Transfer of proposals of new production procedures, materials, and technologies was beneficial in rationalization and quality improvement activities of many mechanical engineering enterprises.
